My dream WiFi phone

This is the Nokia N81 and it is my dream phone with WiFi features.

I like the fact that you can get 3G/Edge connection too when you are out of WiFi range. 8GB of memory is fantastic.

SharemyWifi.com

I totally like the idea of this website ShareMyWifi.com.

The author/creator of the idea promotes sharing of WiFi between consenting neighbours. That's a great idea. Next would be to come out with software that can combine both WiFi signals and route them so that both neighbours can benefit from faster internet connection.

One can dream right ??

Waiting for City wide free WiFi

I'm waiting for the day that WiFi is so common that it blankets the whole city. Some cities in America has announced plan for metropolitan WiFi where anybody in the city can have access to free WiFi for free.

Of course granted that there is no health concerns with so much WiFi signals in the air :)

WiFi health dangers?

I read with interest about the health dangers over wireless connection.

I know that mobile phones emit microwaves that is said to be hazardous to one's health. I think there's may be some merit in that WiFi signals also do have some concerns.

Well at least one California city has turned down a free wifi due to the health concerns of a few.

I mean just sitting at home and looking at my notebook, I already see 11 different WiFi signals from various houses around me !!

Offense to steal WiFi?

Police officers in London arrested a 39-year-old man using his laptop to access someone else's wireless Internet connection on Tuesday.

His actions could potentially breach the Computer Misuse Act and the Communications Act, according to a Metropolitan Police Service statement. A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrest on Thursday.

Two Police Community Support Officers spotted the man using the computer as he sat on a garden wall in the West London suburb of Chiswick. When they questioned him, he admitted using an unsecured Wi-Fi connection. PCSOs do not have the same powers as regular police officers, and so had to wait for other officers to arrest him. British Police forces use PCSOs to reassure the public and tackle antisocial behavior: they spend most of their time on foot patrol.

The man was later released on police bail, and must return to the police station in Chiswick on Oct. 11

Dishonestly obtaining electronic communication services is an offense under Section 125 of the U.K. 2003 Communications Act, while unauthorized access to computer material is a summary offense under Section 1 of the 1990 Computer Misuse Act.

Oh come on!!

Really??

You get arrested for stealing WiFi? This means I should be arrested too as I frequently 'steal' my neighbours WiFi. Is it my fault if their WiFi signals drifts into my house unprotected?

Homemade WiFi signal booster

I read with interest the various ways one can boost WiFi signal using a USB wifi adapter.

One of the funniest is using a WiFry.

Funny but effective!!

I tried it out and I found WiFi signals I've never seen before in my house. I could even log on to someone's unprotected WiFi some houses away!

Basically it involved poking a hole in this deep fry spatula thingy which you should be able to find in some market. I bought mine for only less than a dollar.

The thing acts as a parabolic dish and enhances the WiFi signals. I can't believe it actually works!! Now my problem is to bring it along with my notebook and dealing with the stares and laughs I will no doubt get when I pull it out to use.
